Overview

Okinawa Restaurant ChimChim, tucked away in the vibrant Sukhumvit 65 area of Bangkok, offers a rare and authentic taste of Okinawan cuisine. This Japanese restaurant stands out by specializing in dishes unique to Okinawa, rather than the more common traditional Japanese fare. The converted house setting creates a warm, inviting atmosphere that feels both cozy and welcoming, perfect for diners seeking a relaxed yet culturally rich experience.

The menu boasts delightful highlights such as Radish Tempura, Eggplant Chicken, and the beloved Okinawa Soba set meal. These dishes showcase the distinct flavors Okinawa is known for — a blend of fresh, subtle, and hearty ingredients. Signature items like Jimami Tofu and Goya Tempura deliver textures and tastes that are both authentic and memorable, balancing silkiness with a slight bitterness that excites the palate. The use of local Okinawan beverages like Orion Beer and Awamori further enhances the authenticity of the dining experience.

Many patrons appreciate the variety, from the refreshing Tuna Somen and Taco Rice to the richer, comforting broths of Chim Chim Soba and Rafute pork belly. The flavored rice dishes, such as Seared Pork with Seasoned Rice, demonstrate the kitchen’s skill in harmonizing Okinawa’s traditional tastes with contemporary presentation.

ChimChim’s intimate space and Japanese-inspired décor create a serene ambiance, ideal for food enthusiasts curious about Okinawa’s culinary heritage. The establishment encourages making reservations due to its limited seating, emphasizing a personalized and attentive dining atmosphere. The target audience includes locals and visitors eager to explore regional Japanese cuisines beyond the typical sushi and ramen offerings.

In summary, Okinawa Restaurant ChimChim offers a genuine, flavorful journey into Okinawa’s culinary world right in the heart of Bangkok. Its unique dishes, cozy setting, and authentic drinks make it a must-visit for those who value cultural richness paired with excellent taste.

First time trying okinawan food and absolutely loved it. Great flavours with different combinations compared to traditional Japanese cuisine. Please do try out the Okinawa Pasta with meat sauce, it's fantastic. Potato salad was quite different from the usual ones you get at izakayas but the sweet potato does work. The salmon okonomyaki is also fantastic so there's plenty to go around and try different things. Will come back for sure!

Chim Chim is a hidden gem! They’ve converted their house into a charming Okinawan restaurant, giving it a warm and homey feel. The Seared Pork with Seasoned Rice was tender and flavorful, paired perfectly with the seasoned rice. The Chim Chim Soba had a rich, comforting broth with perfectly cooked noodles. The Jimami Tofu was silky smooth with a delicate nutty taste, and the Goya Tempura was crispy with just the right touch of bitterness. Every dish was excellent — highly recommend this place for authentic Okinawan flavors in a cozy setting!

I'd suggest making a reservation in advance because they have limited seats. The food is all amazing. I tried mini soba and loved the soup so much. The place has such a cozy, japanesey vibe that will make you wanna sit and relax for a long time.

A cozy Japanese restaurant in Ekkamai that truly gives off the vibe of dining in Japan, complete with Japanese folk songs playing in the background. The food was tasty, with a nicely balanced soup, though the portions might feel a bit small compared to what Thai diners are used to. Parking can be a bit tricky if you drive, as the restaurant is inside a house and there are only 3 parking spaces available in front, inside the fence.

A nice, home-style Japanese kitchen run by Japanese owners. Everything tasted good and felt authentic. The only downside was the salmon sashimi — it didn't really impress me. Still, overall a pleasant meal.
